NCUE’s International Foundation Program (IFP) has once again delivered impressive results. In the spring semester of the 2025 academic year, students demonstrated exceptional performance on the Test of Chinese as a Foreign Language (TOCFL).
Among 26 students in the pre-degree Chinese preparatory class, 23 successfully met the TOCFL A2 threshold and progressed to NCUE’s Department of Electronic Engineering—an advancement rate of nearly 90 percent. Even more encouraging, more than half of the cohort achieved the B1 level, surpassing expectations and highlighting the effectiveness of the University’s Chinese language instruction and academic support system.
The students, primarily from Vietnam and Indonesia, completed six months of intensive and structured language training. Within a short period, they overcame language barriers and made steady progress in listening, speaking, reading, and writing, laying a strong foundation for their professional studies. Their achievement reflects both their dedication and motivation, as well as the thoughtful curriculum design and commitment of the teaching team.
Director Tsung-Hsien Ko of the International Foundation Program noted that the cohort’s results demonstrate the growing maturity of NCUE’s integrated language training and academic articulation model. Through systematic curriculum planning and cross-unit collaboration, the program supports students in building solid language proficiency and transitioning smoothly into degree programs.
Beginning in the 2026 academic year, the program will expand to include five academic departments: Electronic Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Electrical and Mechanical Technology, and Computer Science and Information Engineering, providing students with broader and more comprehensive academic pathways. Director Ko emphasized that the program will continue strengthening instructional quality and student support resources to help international students thrive in Taiwan and prepare for future academic and career development.
NCUE’s International Office remains committed to building a comprehensive support system for international students, integrating professional language instruction, academic tutoring, and assistance with campus life. Moving forward, the University will further enhance Chinese language resources and foundational mathematics and science support to ensure students’ successful academic progression and long-term development in Taiwan.
As the new semester begins, the International Foundation Program will continue to uphold its student-centered educational philosophy, empowering more international students to overcome language barriers and embark on meaningful academic and professional journeys in Taiwan.
