First On-Campus Job Fair in Recent Years Paves the Way for International Students Indonesian Alumnus Returns as Recruiter Thanks to Career Support Program
To help students gain a deeper understanding of industry trends and explore future career paths, National Changhua University of Education (NCUE) held its first on-campus job fair in recent years on June 4. While focused on international students, the event was open to all NCUE students and drew a large, enthusiastic turnout. Representatives from the Ministry of Labor and the Changhua County Government also attended. Participating companies praised both the quality of the event and the caliber of NCUE students, with many expressing strong interest in future collaboration. Notably, an Indonesian alumnus who secured employment through NCUE’s career support program returned to campus as a recruiter—highlighting the university’s role in helping international students transition smoothly from classroom to career while supporting Taiwan’s industries in attracting global talent.
The job fair was organized by NCUE’s Office of International and Cross-Strait Affairs (OICA) under the Ministry of Education’s “Career Counseling and Support Program for International Students in Taiwan,” and co-hosted with the Office of Student Affairs. The Alumni Service Center and the Innovation Incubation Center under the Office of R&D served as co-organizers. A total of 25 domestic companies and 5 government or campus-affiliated units participated. NCUE President Ming-Fei Chen presided over the opening ceremony, accompanied by vice presidents, senior administrators, and college deans. Distinguished guests included Director Chun-Sheng Ho of the Changhua County Department of Labor Affairs and Director Ju-Hsin Wang of the Youth Career Development Center (Central Taiwan Branch) under the Ministry of Labor’s Workforce Development Agency—showcasing strong cross-sector collaboration.
President Chen noted that Taiwan's declining birthrate has significantly impacted its labor force structure. In response, the government has been actively encouraging the enrollment and employment of international students to address talent shortages. Some participating companies have already partnered with NCUE to offer scholarships and part-time work opportunities to international students, demonstrating shared values around talent cultivation and retention through academia-industry cooperation.
The job fair featured companies from Taiwan’s key industries, including semiconductors, electronics manufacturing, machinery, bicycle components, metal processing, and tourism. Major companies such as SPIL, KYEC, Pou Chen Group, Cheng Shin Rubber, SDI Corporation, Camel Precision, and CHIPBOND participated in on-site recruitment. Students had the opportunity to interact directly with employers, submit résumés, and attend interviews. A career consultation zone also provided one-on-one support—benefiting everyone from first-year students exploring future pathways to graduating seniors entering the job market.
One standout participant was Indonesian R&D assistant engineer Abizard Faraz Rauf, who offered career consultations at the LeeDo Technology booth in both Indonesian and English. Before graduating from NCUE’s Master’s program in Chemistry this February, he had already secured employment through NCUE’s career support services, which included employer information sessions and on-campus interviews. He was hired by LeeDo Technology Co., Ltd. under a scholarship program and returned as a company representative. He shared that Taiwan’s convenient lifestyle and friendly environment make it an attractive destination for global talent—so much so that he now considers Taiwan his second home.
Many international students actively engaged with employers at the event. Among them was Muhammed Enes Mermer from Türkiye, a graduating student in NCUE’s International Master’s Program in Engineering, specializing in semiconductors—an industry in which Taiwan leads globally. He expressed appreciation for Taiwanese culture and the cost of living here and hopes to work in Taiwan. He also thanked NCUE for bringing companies to campus, providing students with opportunities for direct interaction and job applications.
Monica C., an Indian student who had been in Taiwan for just two months, also found the event eye-opening. She indicated that, before coming here, she only knew Taiwan was strong in semiconductors. But through this fair, she has discovered its advancements in other areas like VR and IoT. She described NCUE as an international family that has helped her integrate into local culture and traditions, further strengthening her desire to pursue a career in Taiwan.
Yung-Hsin Chang, a senior from Malaysia in the Department of Information Management, praised NCUE’s career counseling program and the one-on-one guidance provided by OICA, which helped him clarify his career goals.
According to a survey conducted by OICA, participating companies were highly satisfied with the planning and execution of the event and commended the professionalism and engagement of NCUE students. Most expressed a strong willingness to continue working with the university and looked forward to future job fairs.
Director Ho of the Changhua County Labor Department recognized NCUE as a major talent hub in the region and expressed hope that even more companies would participate in future events. Director Wang from the Youth Career Development Center emphasized the Ministry of Labor and the county government's commitment to partnering with NCUE to support students as they transition from education to employment. Dean Hon-Man Lee of OICA stated that NCUE has signed over 20 university-industry cooperation agreements, reinforcing its role as a vital bridge for international students transitioning from study to career in Taiwan. He expressed his gratitude to the co-organizing and supporting units on campus, whose collaboration made this event a great success. He also acknowledged the significant efforts of the team led by Division Head Hsiu-Hui Chang of the International Office. Special thanks were given to colleagues Yu-Yen Lee and Sheng-Bin Chen, who are responsible for implementing the MOE’s career support program for international students, as well as to staff members and student assistants involved in administrative tasks, venue arrangements, on-site interpretation, etc.
Other attending NCUE officials included Vice Presidents Yu-Min Tseng and Liang-Jui Chen; Dean of Student Affairs Chih-Hung Wang; Dean of R&D Yu-Ling Sung; Dean of Academic Affairs Yang-Wei Lin; Director of Personnel Chia-Li Wang; and Deans Chi-Yen Huang (College of Science), Kai-Chao Yao (College of Technology), Sheng-Hui Huang (College of Liberal Arts), and Yung-Ling Lai (College of Engineering), along with Director Chi-Kuang Sun of the Precision Career Development Center.
