India Taipei Association Director General Yadav Visits NCUE to Strengthen Educational and Cultural Ties
Director General Manharsinh Laxmanbhai Yadav of the India Taipei Association (ITA) recently visited National Changhua University of Education (NCUE), where he engaged in in-depth discussions with university faculty and interacted warmly with Indian students currently studying at the university. The students’ strong academic foundations in science and engineering, coupled with their eagerness to learn, were highly praised by NCUE faculty and peers. Director General Yadav expressed his satisfaction that these students could pursue their studies in Taiwan, a country renowned globally for its high-tech industries. Both parties demonstrated a strong consensus on promoting educational and cultural exchanges between India and Taiwan.
The ITA serves as India’s representative office in Taiwan. Director General Yadav is a seasoned Indian diplomat who previously served with India’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in Geneva and held postings at Indian embassies in Washington, D.C., and various European countries.
Attendees at the welcome meeting included Dean of the Office of International and Cross-Strait Affairs (OICA) Hon-Man Lee, Dean of the College of Science Chi-Yen Huang, Department of English Professor and OICA International Advisor Andre Goderich, OICA Head of the Division of International Affairs Hsiu-Hui Chang, and nearly 15 Indian students—part of the approximately 25 currently enrolled in NCUE’s international master’s programs or participating in the Ministry of Education’s TEEP (Taiwan Experience Education Program) internship initiative.
During the meeting, Dean Lee stated that NCUE has grown into a comprehensive university with strong science and engineering programs, offering international master’s degrees and supporting students through internships and career services to help them stay in Taiwan after graduation. Currently, NCUE collaborates with around 20 companies across high-tech and manufacturing sectors, including several publicly listed corporations with factories in India. As a result, Indian students who pursue careers in Taiwan may also find opportunities to contribute their expertise upon returning to India.
Dean Lee further highlighted that some Indian students chose to apply to NCUE’s graduate programs after completing internships under the TEEP initiative, demonstrating the university’s strong academic appeal. He praised Indian students for their academic potential and strong STEM backgrounds and expressed hope that more Indian youth would pursue studies at NCUE. At present, NCUE has established partnerships with nearly 10 universities in India, with academic collaboration continuing to deepen. It is expected that Director General Yadav’s visit will further strengthen bilateral cooperation and broaden NCUE students’ global mobility and academic perspectives.
Dean Lee also emphasized that, according to the UK-based Times Higher Education (THE) University Impact Rankings, NCUE performs outstandingly in achieving Sustainable Development Goals such as gender equality and reducing inequality. The university is committed to providing a diverse and inclusive learning environment regardless of nationality, gender, ethnicity, or cultural background. To further support international students, NCUE established the International House, a dedicated space for student interaction that includes a kitchenette and prayer rooms, addressing diverse cultural and daily needs to ensure a welcoming and supportive environment for students from around the world.
During the meeting, Director General Yadav inquired about the motivations and experiences of the Indian students present in choosing NCUE, and noted that India places great emphasis on foundational education, resulting in students having strong STEM backgrounds. He acknowledged Taiwan’s international competitiveness in semiconductors, artificial intelligence, and materials science and expressed pride that Indian students in Taiwan can benefit from an academic environment comparable to that of the U.S. and Europe. He encouraged students to overcome shyness, proactively learn Mandarin, and actively engage with local students to learn from their strengths and expand their global perspectives. He also expressed hope that upon returning to India, these students would apply their knowledge and serve as important bridges in India–Taiwan relations.
Given that Taiwan is still relatively unfamiliar to many Indian students, both sides agreed to continue promoting opportunities through internships, industry-academia cooperation, and language support. They also discussed plans to co-host Indian book fairs and Gandhi-themed cultural events to enrich the international atmosphere on campus and boost global mobility for local students.
